Committee on the By-Laws and the Faculty/Administration Manual

The Committee on the By-Laws and the Faculty/Administration Manual is comprised of three faculty members. As a standing Senate Committee, at least one of the elected faculty members must be a Senator. Ex-officio members include the Speaker of the Faculty, the Faculty Secretary, and the Provost (or Provost’s designee). The Senior Vice President for Legal Affairs (or designee) is a non-voting, ex-officio member.

The committee is responsible for reviewing any motions to amend the Faculty By-Laws and to propose changes for improvements, forwarding recommended changes to the administration and/or the Faculty Senate as appropriate. The committee incorporates revisions or interpretations  of either document in new editions of them. For the Faculty By-Laws, the committee is responsible for making non-substantive changes (such as correcting grammatical, spelling, and stylistic errors; also to correct inaccurate administrative title). Such changes shall be made only when unanimously approved by the Committee, and a notice in writing shall be given to the Faculty Senate within 60 calendar days of such changes being approved by the Committee. However, these non-substantive changes can be repealed through an appropriate motion that is approved by a simple majority of the Committee, the Faculty Senate, or the College Faculty.
