Advisory Committee on Tenure, Promotion and Third-Year Review

The Advisory Committee on Tenure, Promotion and Third-Year Review is made up of five tenured faculty members, with five tenured alternates also elected. The Provost will serve as an ex-officio non-voting member of the committee. (To view the specific rules on what situations/circumstances will prevent someone from being a member of this committee, or result in having to be disqualified for a particular review, please see the committee’s full description in the Faculty/Administration Manual, August 2017: Article V, Section 3.B.8)

Upon disqualification of a committee member(s) from a review, the Chair of the committee shall complete its composition by drawing lots from among the alternates. The committee is responsible for reviewing each school and departmental recommendation involving tenure and promotion, and to review any third-year evaluation upon the request of the faculty member under consideration or a member of the school or departmental panel. In fulfilling its responsibility, the committee will determine whether the school or department has duly considered the standards, criteria and evidence established by the College, the school, and the department in evaluating the candidate. The committee also determines if the school or department has followed the procedures established by the College for evaluating the candidate. Finally, the committee makes recommendations in writing to the President regarding tenure, promotion or reappointment.
